Climate Change

Climate change may be the next disruption that changes the course of your company strategy. Or it may be your opportunity to raise your profile. The effects of climate change are already upon us and the need to manage climate risk is increasing exponentially as carbon emissions rise closer to 1.5oC.

Climate resilience is relevant in commercial and financial decision making, not to mention your company’s attractiveness to investors, employees and customers. Acting on material risks (“foreseeable climate risks”) to your company is now a legal responsibility of company directors and part of their duty of care and diligence.

Climate Risk and Adaptation

The recommendations of the Financial Stability Board’s Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), now part of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), provide guidance on how to assess and manage climate risk under four headings – governance, risk management, strategy and reporting.

SBC works with companies to assess and manage their climate change impacts and develop adaptation plans. We offer a bespoke service aligned to the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS) otherwise known as mandatory sustainability reporting standards.

Understand how your company could be exposed to climate change and how it needs to adapt. Doing so will create greater resilience over the long-term, keep your shareholders informed and potentially offer opportunities for new markets.

Carbon Emissions Measurement and Reduction

The world needs to move quickly to a net zero carbon economy and doing so is critical to minimising the impacts of climate change. For companies, measuring and reducing carbon emissions is the smart thing to do and will reduce carbon risk, provide opportunities for business efficiency and enhance your reputation. Do you understand your company’s carbon liability?

Developing a net zero plan aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative provides a means of aiming for decarbonisation in accordance with the Paris Agreement. Ask us how.

Convincing leaders to take action to change is no longer the main issue. Unfortunately they are seeing more and more of the unacceptable consequences of ‘Business as Usual’ on our society. The issue now is the speed of the development and the size of it. Business is more important than ever in achieving this and will only survive if they change and adapt to this reality
