Carbon accounting and emissions reduction

Carbon Risk

Carbon risk and its impact on financial returns is increasingly occupying the minds of investors, customers, lenders, boards and CFOs.

Know your greenhouse gas emissions liability and what it could cost you. Find out what’s causing your carbon emissions and what proportion of turnover those activities represent. This will help to identify the scale of your risk and focus on ways to reduce it.

Planning for a net zero future makes good business sense. Start by developing your carbon inventory then create an emissions reduction strategy and set targets.

Identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption, source renewable energy, engage with suppliers, improve operational efficiency and realise savings. Manage your carbon risks and meet reporting requirements.

Carbon Disclosure Project research has shown that many carbon reduction activities generate an annual return on investment (ROI) of 33%, equivalent to a payback period of three years.

In its basic form carbon management consists of measuring, planning, reducing, monitoring and offsetting.

Let us measure your carbon emissions, help you set your net zero targets and pathways or become carbon neutral.

Carbon Accounting

SBC specialises in developing carbon inventories (commonly known as a ‘carbon footprint’ or ‘carbon account’) including Scopes 1, 2 and 3. We apply global standards of greenhouse gas emissions measurement and reporting. To start, we need to understand a company’s ownership, operating and financial boundaries and to determine what activities are in scope. The next step is gathering data, which we assess and convert into carbon emissions (tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent or tCO2-e). This information is presented in best practice format ready for sustainability and climate reporting.

Emissions Reduction

Emissions reduction, or ‘decarbonisation’, is an opportunity to demonstrate and achieve sustainability, and to meet stakeholder expectations. Every dollar spent will translate into a future saving – in carbon, energy and expenses. Our approach provides economic value by assessing all opportunities, undertaking sound business case analysis, prioritising projects and helping to secure funding.

We also help companies to build an internal carbon price into procurement, investment decision-making and asset management policies and processes. Our experience is hands-on and comes from a background in financial management and carbon accounting.

Net Zero Targets

The net zero challenge is here. We can help you to understand the difference between the terms ‘carbon neutral‘ and ‘net zero‘ and how to set meaningful and achievable targets for Scopes 1, 2 and 3. We can also assist in setting targets aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and achieving recognition for your commitment to climate action.
