Climate Risk and Resilience

Climate change may be the next disruption that changes the course of your company strategy. Or it may be your opportunity to drive change. Climate resilience is becoming increasingly relevant in commercial and financial decision making, not to mention your company’s attractiveness to investors and customers.

Climate Risk and Adaptation

The effects of climate change are upon us and the need to manage climate risk is increasing exponentially as carbon emissions rise closer to 1.5oC. All companies are responsible for identifying and managing their climate risks in terms of physical and transition impacts.

The recommendations of the Financial Stability Board’s Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) provides guidance on how to assess and manage climate risk under four headings – governance, risk management, strategy and reporting.

SBC works with private infrastructure companies and others to assess and manage their climate change impacts and develop adaptation plans. We offer a bespoke service aligned to your internal risk systems as well as to the TCFD.

Understand how your company could be exposed to climate change and how it needs to adapt. Doing so will create greater resilience over the long-term, keep your shareholders informed and potentially offer opportunities for new markets.

Carbon Emissions Measurement and Reduction

The world needs to move quickly to a net zero carbon economy and doing so is critical to minimising the impacts of climate change. For companies, measuring and reducing carbon emissions is the smart thing to do and will reduce carbon risk, provide opportunities for business efficiency and enhance your reputation. Do you understand your company’s carbon liability?

Developing a net zero plan aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative provides a means of aiming for decarbonisation in accordance with the Paris Agreement. Ask us how you can do this.

Climate Policy and Planning

Do you have a carbon or climate change policy and strategy? Do you need a climate change adaptation and/or carbon emissions reduction or net zero plan? Do you understand which infrastructure and building assets are at risk from climate change? Contact us today.

From challenges come opportunities. Now is the time to plan for the risks and opportunities that climate change presents. Whether you are a large company, a small business, a local council, a not-for-profit or a public service, this is relevant to you.

Fully understanding climate risks and opportunities can help future-proof your organisation.

Convincing leaders to take action to change is no longer the main issue. Unfortunately they are seeing more and more of the unacceptable consequences of ‘Business as Usual’ on our society. The issue now is the speed of the development and the size of it. Business is more important than ever in achieving this and will only survive if they change and adapt to this reality”, Philippe Joubert, Chair of The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group.

“Climate change is a financial risk, it’s clear that position is now orthodox thinking”. (Geoff Summerhayes, APRA).
